Harold C. Johnson was the son of Charles Frank and Lillian (Russell) Johnson. He was educated in the Decatur Public School System and was a member of the Antioch Missionary Baptist Church in Decatur, IL.

Mr. Johnson was a senior account executive for WB/23 Television. He was previously employed by TCI Media Services, Inc. as an account executive and at WDOY/Y103 radio stations for over 19 years (with over 14 of those years in management). He was later promoted to general sales manager for both WSOY/Y103 radio stations.

Harold was very active in his local community. He served three consecutive terms as president of the local chapter of the NAACP. He served as chairman of the Planning Commission of Decatur, the Board of Directors for Children and Family Services, the Board of Directors for the Decatur Area Convention and Visitors Bureau, and the Decatur Area Arts Council. He participated in a mentoring program at the First Church of God in Christ, and was a council member of the University of Illinois Extension and Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Macon County. He also served as president of the Emanon Club and was a member of various other organizations.

On July 1, 1962 Harold was united in holy matrimony to the former Beverly Ward of Springfield, IL. This union was blessed with two sons and two daughters.

He leaves not to mourn but to cherish his memories: his wife Beverly of Decatur, IL; son Stephen and daughters Robin Lynn of Decatur and Debra Kay of Washington DC; 2 grandchildren; brother Reynaldo Pennywell of California; 4 aunts, 2 uncles and many more relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and son Christopher Todd Johnson.

Final arrangements were handled by the Walker Funeral Service & Chapel.
