Funeral Service: 10:30 A.M. Friday, November 3, 2006 at the Trinity Lutheran Church in DeWitt, NE.

Clara Bartels, 93 years of age, of Fairbury, NE., formerly of DeWitt, NE. passed away at the Heritage Care Center in Fairbury, NE. Tuesday morning, October 31, 2006. She was born on April 14, 1913 in Scotland, South Dakota. She and Reinhold Bartels were married on May 14, 1943 in Daykin, NE. She moved from Fairbury, NE. to DeWitt, NE. in 1960, and then moved back to Fairbury in 2000. She was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in DeWitt, NE. and a former member of the American Legion Auxiliary in DeWitt. She enjoyed gardening, flowers, cooking, sewing, crocheting, visiting with friends and family, and following Eric's racing. She was always caring for others unselfishly.

Survivors include 2 daughters Velda Jensen and husband Dennis of Plymouth, NE. and Sharon Hansen of Beatrice, NE.; son Larry A. Bartels of DeWitt, NE.; 3 grandsons, 6 great grandchildren, 4 step grandchildren and 3 step great grandchildren; sisters Martha Frank of Yukon, Oklahoma and Edith Andersen of Yankton, South Dakota. She was preceded in death by her parents Adam and Catherine (Bentz) Schmidt; husband Reinhold Bartels (1976); son Kenneth Bartels; 7 brothers and 1 sister.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. Friday, November 3, 2006 at the Trinity Lutheran Church in DeWitt, NE. with Reverend Kenneth Kramer officiating. Interment will be in the Oak Grove Cemetery, DeWitt, NE. The body will lie in state Thursday from 11-9:00 at the Venrick-Griffiths-Hovendick Chapel in DeWitt, NE. and at the church one hour preceding the service on Friday. A family prayer service will be held at 10:15 A.M. Friday at the church. A memorial has been established to the DeWitt Rescue Unit with the Venrick-Griffiths-Hovendick Chapel in DeWitt in charge. Messages of condolence may be sent to [email protected]. They will be forwarded to the family.

The Venrick-Griffiths-Hovendick Chapel in DeWitt is in charge of the services.
