Joseph Marshall Newman, 79, of Doolin route 38, New Martinsville died Sunday, September 4, 1983 at the Wetzel County Hospital, he was born February 1, 1904, in Wetzel County, the son of the late James Ward Newman and Rozena Tharp Newman.
He was a retired school teacher, having taught in the Wetzel County Schools for 39 years and in the Monroe County Ohio Schools for eight ears. He was a member of the National Retired Teachers Association, the Ohio Education Association, the West Virginia Education Association, the Monroe County Teachers Association, and the Wetzel County Teachers Association.
Surviving are his wife, Emma Starkey Newman; three daughters, Mrs. Charles (Joan) Cecil of New Martinsville, Mrs. Walter (Jacquline) Boyd of Seal Beach, California, and Mrs. Robert (Marylin) Yoho of New Martinsville; two sons Donald and Ronald, both of New Martinsville; two brothers Okey and Everett "Bill," both of Clarksburg; 14 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Friends were received at the Ratcliffe Funeral, 751 3rd St., New Martinsville on Tuesday and will be received today 2-4 and 7-9 where services will be held at 11 am tomorrow with Rev. Charles Willard officiating. Interment at North View Cemetery.
