She was born October 2, 1910, on a farm near Baileyville, the daughter of Henry and Agnes Rethman Deters. She attended Sacred Heart School in Baileyville. She helped on the family farm and also in local homes with newborn infants.
She married Ignatius F. "Nate" Rottinghaus on April 4, 1934, in Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Baileyville, KS. They lived and farmed north of St. Benedict, KS and later moved to a farm north of Baileyville. She cared for her father in her home for about 20 years. In 1969, they retired and moved into Baileyville. He died June 19, 1988.
Mrs. Rottinghaus was a member of Sacred Heart Church, the altar society at the church and the Benedictine Oblates, all in Baileyville. She enjoyed keeping busy and was active up to the day of her final illness. She enjoyed needlework and playing cards.
Survivors include two daughters, Phyllis Waller, Hoyt, KS; Theresa Kenkel, Ozawkie, KS; brother, Joe Deters, Seneca, KS; eight grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Besides her husband and her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Ben Deters, Tony Deters, and Lawrence Deters.
Mass of Christian Burial was held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Baileyville, KS. Burial was in the church cemetery.
