Rosina was the daughter of William and Mary Ringrose "Brooke" Young, who were born in England, and lived at "Rosewood", a farm near Richmond, VA. She married Augustus Mordecai, son of Jacob and Rebecca "Myers" Mordecai, on March 03, 1835. They were the parents of six children, four of whom lived to adulthood. Rosina, although never in robust health, continued to live on the farm and raise her children after Augustus' death in 1847. During the Civil War, soldiers of both sides often occupied the farm.
