Mr. DeWitt C. Clyde died last Thursday afternoon.  He had been nearly helpless for several months, but suffered no pain, and gradually wore out.  He was born on the Clyde farm in the town of Cherry Valley, on Nov. 27, 1808, where he lived with his parents until 1832, when he was married to Bethany Newcomb of the town of Middlefield, when he removed to the farm where he died, thus living nearly 60 years on this farm. He served for many years as captain in the old militia, and in all his relations in life he was a man of sterling integrity, and his long life among us was one above reproach.  He was for many years a member of the Presbyterian church here and lived and died full in the faith of meeting his Saviour in that eternity where we all must go.  He leaves one son, J. L. Clyde of Westmoreland, Oneida county, and a daughter, Mrs. George Groat of this place.  He was buried Sunday afternoon from his late home, and laid in the cemetery here in the family lot by his wife and daughter.  The services were conducted by his pastor, the Rev. George H. Chatterton, and many assembled to pay their last tribute to their departed friend."  ["The Otsego Farmer" (Cooperstown, NY), Fri., June 19, 1891, p. 4]
