Muriel J. Burman, Portland, MI, age 89, died on October 31, 2006 at Hospice of Lansing. Ms. Burman was born June 30, 1917.
She was a graduate of Portland High School class of 1935 and Albion College Class of 1939. Until her retirement in 1981 she taught Home Economics in Martin, Sparta, and Dowagiac.
She was preceded in death by her Father and Mother Samuel and Mabel Burman, Sister Kathleen Jones, Brother-in-law Guy Jones, and Nephew Keith Jones.
Muriel was a past member of several Portland Ladies Organizations. She was a member of the First Congregational Church of Portland and a retired member of the Michigan Education Association. During summer vacations she traveled to many Foreign Countries as well as many locations within the United States. She is survived by Cousins Charles (Mary) Dorin of Belleville, Gerald Smith of Quincy and Ervin Morse of Lansing. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on November 3, 2006 at the First Congregational Church of Portland with the Reverend Dr. Marilyn Danielson officiating. Visitation will be November 2, 2006 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the Schrauben-Lehman Funeral Home, 210 Bridge St., Portland. Those desiring may make contributions to the First Congregational Church of Portland or to Hospice of Lansing In memory of Muriel Burman.
