Willie Ludy Brown

ALPOCA - Willie Ludy Brown, 90, departed this life Tuesday, July 31, 2007, in a Beckley hospital following a long illness.

Born April 17, 1917, at Black Eagle, he was the son of the late Benjamin Brown and Alice Brown Hammond.

Brother Brown was a 70-year resident of Alpoca, a member of Mount Olive Baptist Church at Alpoca, a former coal miner for Slab Fork Coal Co. at Alpoca, retiring with 35 and a half years of service, and was a member of the UMWA and Local Union 9781 at Alpoca.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sons, Carl E. Brown and Willie L. Brown Jr.; seven sisters, Ozell Harris, Ruby Brown, Thelma Brown Cook, Olethia Simms, Pearl Cook, Eula May Washington and Alma Fralin; and three brothers, Menzo Brown, Mario Brown and Ben J. Brown Jr.

He leaves to cherish his memory his beloved wife of 43 years, Rose E. (Brown) Brown; two sons, Gerrial Brown and Toney C. Brown, both of Huntington; two daughters, Teresa Brown Petties of Huntington and Ramona Brown of Alpoca; a sister, Carol Brown of Beckley; a brother, James Brown of Greensboro, N.C.; several grandchildren, David Brown, Karnetta Brown White, Dorothy Brown, Loretta Brown Jones, Maxine Brown, Jason Brown, Gerrial Brown Jr., Jackie Brown, Jamie Brown, Terrika Brown, Jan Petties Jr., William Petties, Monica Petties, Jason Toney, Doretha Johnson, Kelly Perry, Jacob Lester and Marizz A. Lester; several great-grandchildren, James Belcher, Tareska Belcher, Tanayveon Hampton, Shyne Petties, Brannon Brown, Diamond Petties, Jamie Brown II, Devon Perry, Malik Johnson, Jaliza Toney, Daniel Brown, Elijah Brown, Marhante?A Jones, Audriana Brown and LeAnna White; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and some very special friends.

Service will be 1 p.m. Sunday at Tankersley Funeral Home Chapel, Mullens, with the Rev. Clarence Jackson officiating. Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley.

Friends may call 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Buck Fralin, Marc Scholfield, Wayne Scott, Kevin Fralin, Ricky Marsh and James Belcher.

Flower girls will be Mazzia, Monica, Terrika and Libby.
