Son of Daniel and Sarah Brown. Israel was married to Susan Evitts. Israel's children were Margaret 1850, William 1851, Daniel 1854, Henry 1856, Joseph 1861 and Martha Janetta 1863. Israel was a member of the Pennsylvania 184th Regiment Company C and he was taken prisoner and died In Florence South Carolina prison camp. He entered as a private and ended his time as a seargent according to Civil war pension records. Remains are in an unmarked trench In Florence National Cemetery. Israel was a Survivor of Andersonville Prison. Israel was featured in a story that aired on History Detectives in July of 2010 entitled "The Clara Barton Letter".
