Ulrich Heim and Martha Baker were wed on August 8, 1867, in Anderson County, TN. The family lived in or near the town of Bull Run, in Anderson County, during the years 1867-1877, where Ulrich worked as a plasterer and farmer.

In December, 1877, the family moved to Spring House in Grainger County. The family lived there for several years, and the 1880 US Census lists Ulrich Heim; Age 43, Occupation Farmer, as a resident of District 1, Grainger County.

Soon after Ulrich's death, Martha suffered a stroke (March 25, 1910) which left her paralyzed. She continued to live at the Jefferson Avenue home with James, Orlando, William and other family members. She applied for and was granted a widow's pension of $12.00 per month (half the amount Ulrich was receiving at the time of his death).
