John Gilmore Bliss died at his home at 134 North Camp Avenue on Weds morning at 6:00 after an illness of only 3 days


Mr. Bliss was seized with paralysis of the throat Sunday afternoon and all efforts to relieve him were unavailing.


Funeral services will be held this morning at 10:30 at the home.


The deceased was born in Piqua, Ohio on May 28, 1842, and removed to Newton, IL with his parents when a young man.


He enlisted in the Civil War and made a splendid record as a soldier.


He was married to Miss Elvira H. Broderick of Jasper County, IL on 31 Jan 1867.


For the past 28 years, he was an employee of the C. Hasler harness factory and was held in high esteem by all who knew him.


He has been a member of the Masonic fraternity for over 40 years and was also a member of Eli Bower Post, GAR.


He is survived by his wife, two sons, Frank Bliss of Detroit, MI and Carl Bliss of Kansas City, and three daughters, Mrs. Julia P. (Kent D.) Lord of Detroit, MI, Mrs. Jessie M. (Elbert M.) Rowland of Mt. Carmel, IL and Miss Rose Bliss of Olney, IL.
