RAIL MAN GROUND TO DEATH BENEATH
WHEELS OF ENGINE
---Stepping from the Santa Fe train in which he was working as switchman onto the main track system. James Walton Heacock, aged 49 years, residing at 1505 West street, was struck down and instantly killed at 5:30 o'clock Friday afternoon by an approaching passenger train, at the West Forth and Elizabeth street crossing. His body was badly mangled by the onslaught of the train engine.
---According to evidence gleaned by Dr. W. S. Johnston, coroner, Heacock intended to walk across the main track, not seeing the oncoming train, and was only aware of it's approach when it struck him. This train was traveling at a slow rate of speed, but could not avoid striking Heacock who stepped unexpectedly on the track, according to information allotted by Dr. Johnston.
---Dr. Johnston, when interviewed at a late hour Friday night, did not believe that an inquest would be necessary , but said that a decision could not be made yet. He further stated that an announcement concerning this matter will be made by him in a few days.
---Heacock, an employee for the Santa Fe here, for seven years, was a member of the local lodge 645[?], Brotherhood of Railroad Switchman, a member of lodge No. 17 A. F & A. M. , a member of the Southern Colorado Consistory of this city No. 3, and a member of Lodge No. 382 of the Knights of Pythias, of Ford City, Pennsylvania.
---The deceased is survived by his wife, Lillian, at the family home 1505 West street; a brother, Edgar, in Montana, and two sisters, Mrs. E. K. Bugbee and Mrs. John Young, both of Emporia, Kansas.
---Body is in charge of the United Davis-Vories Funeral Home. An announcement of funeral and interment services will be issued later.

The funeral of James Walton Heacock, who was accidentally killed on the evening of January 30, will take place Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock in the United Davis-Vories chapel. Rev. Dr. Francis L. Geyer will officiate at the chapel and Pueblo Lodge No. 17. A.F. & A.M. will conduct the the Masonic services at Roselawn cemetery where interment will be made.
