Friday Evening Accident
Sends Reuel V. Karnatz
To Hospital in Hastings
Lucky to be alive is Reuel V. Karnatz of the Fairfield community whose car crashed into the sixty-seventh car of a Union Pacific freight train one and one-fourth miles south of the Showboat corner around 9:40 Friday evening. The freight struck the car and hurled it more than sixty feet.
The first passerby were Mr. and Mrs. Ervin Fry of Hastings. They noticed the car was off the highway, the tail lights still burning. On investigation they found Mr. Karnatz was badly injured, and a prompt removal to Mary Lanning probably saved his life.
Sgt. Lawrence Feiling of the state patrol investigated. The Karnatz car was practically demolished.
Mr. Karnatz is 35 years of age. He was alone in the car. The car was southbound, having left Hastings a short time before the crash.
Mr. Karnatz is a farm laborer, lives in Fairfield, is married and has five children.
Still Unconscious--
The latest word Thursday p.m. was Karnatz remains unconscious; and, naturally, his family and friends are worried A change could come for the better any hour.
