John Max 'Tubby' Carper II, 71, of Griffithsville went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, April 8, 2009, in CAMC Teays Valley Hospital after a short illness.
He was a recent resident of SunBridge Nursing & Rehabilitation for Putnam, Teays Valley.

He was preceded in death by his father and mother, John Max and Hazel Roberts Carper; and loving aunt, Azile Roberts Bader, with whom he resided for several years.

Being a deaf-mute never stopped Tubby from enjoying life and he never met a stranger. He always had a smile on his face. His main hobby was tinkering with and building model train layouts. He duplicated Harpers Ferry in his train room. He also loved being at Duval High School on a daily basis, doing odd jobs, helping with girls' basketball and the Duval Band. He passed through many generations of high school kids and Duval High School and often referred back to the many kids he came to know and love. He will be greatly missed by everyone who knew him.

Tubby is survived by many cousins.

Service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, April 10, at Curry Funeral Home, Alum Creek, with Pastor Frank Chapman officiating. Burial will be in the Miller family cemetery, Sweetland.

Friends will gather one hour prior to the service at the funeral home
