She was the daughter of Ross Furr and Ella Greenley.

" VEEDERSBURG - Mrs. Josie May Carpenter, 75, died Tuesday at Bratton nursing home, near Rockville, where she had been a patient 16 months. She had been seriously ill the last three weeks. Born near Veedersburg, she was married to James M. Carpenter in 1907. He died in 1935. She was a member of the New Liberty Christian church, south east of Veedersburg. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Ethel Hensley, Wallace, and Mrs. Louise Scalf, Long beach Calif,: three sons, Arnold Muncie Homer, Bloomingdale, and Harry, Los Angeles, Calif.; a brother, Newell Furr, Crawfordsville, and a half sister, Mrs. Mabel Palmer, Veedersburg." - Journal, and Courier, Lafayette, Indiana, Wednesday, December 29, 1961 (Obituary provided by R & Kim Hancock)
