At four years old, Solomon migrated with his mother and siblings from Florence (Omaha), Nebraska to the Salt Lake Valley, Utah Territory.
They traveled with other LDS members in the Horton D. Haight/Frederick Kesler Freight Wagon Train in June of 1859, arriving that September.
He married Maryette Rice 24 December 1874 at Salt Lake City, SL, Utah. They first settled in Cache County and were the parents of three sons.
After his death, Maryette moved back to the Logan, Cache County area where she died 28 May 1924. She is buried at the Lewiston City Cemetery, Cache, Utah; buried under her 2nd husband's surname of Standley.
