Grover L. Brooks, PhD., 53, of Miami, Fla., formerly of Dayton, OH. passed away Saturday at Franciscan Medical Center after a lengthy illness. He was a graduate of Roth High School. He was the recipient of a track scholarship from Kent State University where he received a BS degree. Grover earned an MS from University of Illinois, Masters of Library Science from Wright State University, where he also taught Language Arts, received Professorship in Library Science from California State University, where he was employed until his retirement. He was an accomplished tennis player and avid sportsman.

Preceded in death by his father, Grover Lester Brooks; grandmother, Martha J. Dudley; stepfather, John H. Mathews, Sr. He is the beloved son of Jessie L. Mathews; beloved brother of Janie (Bradley) Baskin, Billy (Theresa) Brooks, Kenneth "Micky" Brooks all of Dayton, Linda (Louis) Webb of L.A., CA; step-brothers & sisters, Lucille Herring, Mildred (Isaac) Crawford, Rev. Jesse, (Lois), Bishop John H. Jr., (Dorothy), Dr. James R. & Willie (Barbara) Mathews, all of Dayton; niece, Tammi Fuselier, nephews, Kevin Colter, Mitchell Allen Tate Jr., Jamal & Jarell Smith; special friends, Jasmin, Sam Tyler, Alex Williams, George Hardwicke. Services June 18, 1997 at Bowman Funeral Chapel North, 3223 Hoover Ave. Bishop John H. Mathews Jr. officiated. Final disposition cremation.
