George Cleon Laney, age 89, of Lehi, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 27, 2009 at his home surrounded by his loving family.


"Clin", as he was known by family and friends, dedicated his life to his country, to his loving wife, children and grandchildren.


Clin was born on March 13, 1920 in St. George, Utah to George W. and Olive Leany.


He was the oldest of five children and grew up on a farm in Hinckley, Utah and later served as a commissioned officer in the Army Air Corp during World War II and as a radio communications engineer in the Pacific Rim. Clin served as President of the Lehi Chamber of Commerce and District Chairman for the Republican Party.


The Laney family operated both the Utah Theatre and Laney's of Lehi retail store successfully for over 45 years. After retiring from the retail business Clin started a photography business featuring many of the beautiful landscapes of Utah and coastal scenes of Oregon.


He was a member of the LDS Church and served in many capacities including Executive Secretary, High Priest Group Leadership and Sunday School President. Clin always taught by example and will be remembered as a man of great faith, honesty, patience, kindness and love to all he came in contact with.


Survivors include the love of his life, wife Relva, children; daughters Kathleen Ross (Ron Ross) and Carolyn Cooper (Gary Cooper), sons Steven Laney (Linda Laney) and Gary Laney (Carla Laney), 21 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren, sister Colleen Brown and brother LaVerl Leany. He was preceded in death by his daughter VerLene Wagstaff Laney, sister Evalo Smith and brother Verlin Leany.


Funeral Services will be held on Friday, April 3, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. in the Lehi First Ward Chapel, 220 West 200 South, Lehi, Utah. There will be a viewing for family and friends held at the Wing Mortuary, 118 East Main Street, Lehi, on Thursday evening, April 2, 2009 from 6-8:00 p.m. and also on Friday at the Church one hour prior to the services.
Interment: Lehi City Cemetery, with Full Military Honors accorded by the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
