A devoted lover of music, arts and God's children, she quietly departed to her heavenly Father's home on Sunday, Dec. 25, 2005. She was born on April 24, 1935, in Slidell and resided principally in Baton Rouge since the early 1950s. She was a member of Broadmoor Presbyterian Church since 1965 and enjoyed singing in the church choir and ringing the handbells. Visitation at Broadmoor Presbyterian Church on Tuesday, Dec. 27, from 1 p.m. until religious service at 3 p.m., conducted by the Rev. Harriet Cale and the Rev. George Werner. The Rev. Hawley Wolfe will conduct the graveside service at Greenoaks Memorial Park.

Marie is survived by her daughter, Cynthia Strain O'Huigin, and son-in-law, Todd O'Huigin, of Friendsville, Pa.; two granddaughters, Ashley Christian Strain and Dorothy Louise Strain; and two siblings, Felton Achord Jr. of Little Rock, Ark., and Jeannette Achord of Parkersburg, Colo.

She was preceded in death by her mother and father, Ethel and Felton Achord; brother, Clifford Achord; and her sister, Charlotte Hibbard.

She was married to Melvin Guillory in 1996 and he died in 1999. She is survived by Dr. Bruce L. Baer, whom she married in 2003. She was especially grateful for the love and consideration of the entire Baer family during her marriage to Dr. Baer. She graduated from Ouachita Parish High School in Monroe and attended LSU. She taught piano for 22 years in Baton Rouge and was a Campfire leader in Broadmoor with Joanna MacPherson and Elizabeth Stout. She taught fitness programs for older adults and those with medical disabilities. Her video, "Movement Matters," has been distributed nationwide. She also was active in teaching yoga. She was a member and past president of member of P.E.O. chapter AJ. Her P.E.O. sisters were her treasure to the end.

Pallbearers will be Mr. Marc Browning, Mr. William Hobaugh, Mr. Charles McDowell, Mr. Andrew McGlathery, Robert Browning, Tim Browning, Christopher Hobaugh and Matthew McGlathery.

Honorary pallbearers are Mr. David McDougal, Mr. John Naylor, Mr. William Zollinger, Mr. William Freshney and Mr. James Atterbury.

She wished especially to thank her devoted and caring physicians, Dr. Frederic Billings, Dr. Thomas Quaid, Dr. Richard Vath, Dr. Robert Kenney and the caretakers at Hospice of Baton Rouge. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Broadmoor Presbyterian Church, the LSU School of Music, the Louisiana Baptist Children's Home in Monroe, Hospice of Baton Rouge or to a charity of choice.
