Layayette Gulick, 67 years old, one of the most prominent farmers in the county, died at 5 oclock Wednesday morning in the family home, four miles north of Decatur on the Bloomington road. Death was caused by heart trouble. He suffered several attacks in the last few days. The one which proved fatal came Tuesday night and he died a few mintues after 5 oclock Wednesday morning.
Funeral services will be conducted in the home at 10:30 o'clock friday morning by Rev. William H L. Penhallagon. Burial will be in Boiling Sprngs cemetery.
Mr. Gulick was born in Macon county, August 2, 1849 and has made his home in this county all his life. He was the son of Levi and Harriett Gullick. His father came to Illinois yeas before and entered nearly 700 acres of land in Hickory point and Decatur townships. In 1853 the elder Mr. Gulick made a trip to Virginia on horse back, but on his return trip he was stricken with cholera and died in Logansport, Ind.
From a tract of 80 acres given to him by his father Lafayette Gulick came into possession of nearby farms until at his death he was the owner of 640 acres of Macon county land. His farms were noted for their productiveness, all being brought to a high state of cultivation. After farming for 20 years, Mr. Gulick built a home on the old Barber place north of Decatur. He has lived a retired life since 1905.
He leaves his wife and three children, Fred L. Gulick, all living near the home place, Miss Nellie Gulick the fourth child, died in 1892 at the age of 20 years. He also leaves three grandchildren.

Richard is the son of Levi and Harriet (Miller) Gulick. He married Martha A. Montgomery on Sept. 22, 1870 in Macon County, IL.
