Richard Coke Battle 89, passed away in his sleep on February 18, 2009 in Scottsdale, Arizona. Born January 10, 1920 in Birmingham, Alabama, "Dick" was raised in Texas before serving in WWII as an officer in the Air Force. A graduate of the University of Houston, he enjoyed a successful sales/marketing career with Signode Corp. before retiring in McAllen, Texas in the late 1980s. Preceded in death by his brother John Battle, sister Ruth Moore, and wife Jeanne Battle. Survived by sons Richard S. and Jeffrey J. Battle, daughter Barbara J. Battle McClellan; grandchildren Richard Battle, Joseph Savak, Brian Savak, and Whitney Battle; and great grandchildren Derrick Battle, Alyssa Battle and Michael Savak. His remains will be laid to rest with those of his wife in Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio, Texas.

A little history. Richard's dad John D. Battle died in 1933 of Broncho Pneumonia. At the time the family was living in Dallas. The family quickly moved to San Antonio to be around friends and family. John was buried there. Richard got a paper route and the his mother sold eggs up and down the street to make money. It was the depression and finances were very uncertain.
