WAYNETOWN - Bert Alward, 81, retired high school and college teacher, died in Rudisill nursing home at Crawfordsville at noon Tuesday, Oct. 10, 1961. He had been ill two months and a patient in the nursing home two weeks.
Born in Jackson Township, Fountain County, he was graduated from Wallace High School, attended Wabash College, received his BS degree from Cumberland University in Tennessee, his master's degree from Oglethorpe University, and did postgraduate work at the University of Washington.
He taught at Milligan College in Tennessee, New River State College in West Virginia, Oglethorpe University at Atlanta, GA, and in high schools in Idaho and Washington state. He retired 11 years ago and moved to his farm west of Wallace.
He was married to Charlotte Steelman at Seattle, WA, in 1925. She survives along with a son, Paul E. Alward of Crawfordsville; a daughter, Mrs. Helen Isbell of Elkhart; a brother, Thurman Alward, and a sister, Miss Icele Alward, both of Kingman.
