Son of James A and Emaline Braddy Majors, the forth child of a family of 13 children.

Emaline's family are the namesakes for Braddyville, their family homestead still stands and the farm was the original plat for the town.

James, his parents and 11 surviving children moved from Illinois when he was 8 years old, settling at was was then Brim's Point (now Kirksville), Wapello, IA.

James married his 1st wife Elizabeth House at Brim's Point IA and they had a son Frances Marion who died as an infant, and Elizabeth died 3 months later.

In 1868, James came to Braddyville, IA and worked for his uncle Jim Braddy (founder of the town) and about 1870 he joined the Masonic Lodge at 'Possum Walk' which later was moved to Elmo, MO.

In 1870 married his 2nd wife Nancy Drake of Braddyville, IA, . They lived on the John Friermuth farm just west of town, which he purchased from John Hart. They lived their several years and then moved to Braddyville. They had one daughter Nora and adopted Fanny. The girls sadly died and were buried on the same day.

Nancy, James wife became an invalid and was bed-fast and helpless for years and was thoughtfully and devotedly cared for by James until he passed away 31 Jul 1901.

On Feb. 10, 1904, James married his 3rd wife Laura Augustus Swain (Widow of David Swan), who died Aug. 7, 1934.

Services were held at the Braddyville Christian Church with E E Stickelman officiating, burial followed in Braddyville Cemetery.
