Susanna was one of 17 children born to Daniel and Jerusha Winn Gunn. The oldest was born in 1787 and the youngest child in 1809. Susanna's mother, Jerusha Winn Gunn, died in Robertson County, TN. The year of her death is not known. It is likely that Jerusha died between 1820 and 1829. Daniel purchased land in Putnam Co, IL in 1829. It is certain that her husband survived her and moved to Illinois in the late 1820's and was living in Tazewell Co, IL, in a small settlement on the Illinois River knows as Ten Mile. This information appears in the 1830 census. Soon after the census, Daniel and several of his adult children moved on north to their land in Putnam Co. Other children of Daniel Gunn and Jerusha settled in southern Illinois while others moved to Missouri.
