Mary was no stranger to giving unselfishly of her time and energy in the causes of the time...her daughter, Ivanhoe, remembers her as loving being the "First Lady" of the State. Mary was blessed with a beautiful soprano voice. She is descended from the Salzburger, Peter Gruber (1697-1740)who settled in Georgia in 1734 after a perilous eight weeks journey. The Salzburgers settled at Ebenezer (near Rincon Georgia) and produced silk. The Old Jerusalem Church still stands on the site.
