Leo M. Sorensen, 91, former resident of Rexburg, died March 23, 2009, in St. George, Utah.

Leo was born Oct. 2, 1917, in Rexburg. He was the son of Joseph A. and Theodocia W. Sorensen. He grew up on his father's dry farm above Mill Hollow overlooking Rexburg. He graduated from Madison High School. He served in the Navy during World War II.

He married Cora Emily Sorensen in the Logan, Utah, Temple of the LDS church in July 31, 1940. She died Oct. 19, 1979. He married Bessie G. Thompson of Thornton on Nov. 7, 1983, in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. They happily shared their life together for 25 years while living in St. George, Utah, and returning to Rexburg in the summers. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served a stake mission, was a high priest and served in many callings.

He was a painter by trade, and over the years he painted many of the homes in the Rexburg area. He and his wife owned a home decorating business located on College Avenue, called Sorensen's Studio. He loved to fish and hunt and was an avid gardener. He enjoyed rock hunting, and his yard was always filled with his finds.

He is survived by three children, Karen A. Clemons of Fruit Heights, Utah, Brent L. Sorensen of Breckenridge, Colo., and Randy G. Sorensen of Fort Worth, Texas; his wife, Bessie of St. George; and seven grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Cora E. Sorensen; mother and father; four brothers, Ray, Orval, Lavon and Welby; and his sister, Ruth.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, March 27, at Flamm Funeral Home in Rexburg. The family will receive friends from 9:30 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. Friday prior to the services at the funeral home. Burial will be in Sugar City Cemetery.
