CLEO WESTRUM, 93

Cleo Westrum, 93, formerly of Stratford, passed away at the Evangelical Free Church Home in Boone, Iowa on Monday morning, January 20, 2003 due to respiratory complications. She had been a resident at the Evangelical Free Church Home in Boone since August of 1993.
She was born on August 10, 1909 in Hamilton County, Iowa the daughter of L. Q. and Mabel (Kent) Dick. On August 10, 1933 she married Harold Westrum at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa.
Cleo was a graduate of Stanhope High School and Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa. She taught for several years in Sewal, Iowa. The family made their home in Stratford where Mr. Westrum was owner and operator of Stratford Oil Company and farmed. Cleo was a homemaker who loved and cared for her family, participated in community affairs, taught piano lessons, and enjoyed her extended family and many friends.
She was a member of the Calvary United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday school, directed the choir, and was active in Circle and United Methodist Women and held numerous offices in the Church. She loved music and was gracious about sharing her talent singing for weddings and funerals. After Harold retired the couple enjoyed traveling. Harold died October 5, 1967 and Cleo continued her interest in her family and traveled to Europe, the Holy Land, and to many places in the United States.
After suffering a stroke, she entered the Evangelical Free Church Home where she participated in its many activities. She enjoyed her new friends and appreciated the kindness and generosity of those who cared for her so lovingly.
Her parents, husband, Harold in October of 1967, one son, Dick Westrum, one grandson-in-law, Tony Cella, and two sisters, Esther Carlson and Velma Anderson preceded her in death.
Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Noel and Wilma Westrum of Stratford, Iowa, Tim and Pam Westrum of Granger, Iowa; two daughters and sons-in-law, Stephanie and Stan Quick of Strom Lake, Iowa, Sylvia Beth and Doyle Eyman of Fargo, North Dakota; one daughter-in-law, Kathy Westrum Carlisle of Bella Vista, Arkansas; 18 grandchildren, Karin Quick of Minneapolis, Minnesota, Tom Quick and his wife Judy of Des Moines, Iowa, Monte Westrum of Boone, Iowa, Joy Seitz and her husband Bill of Houston, Texas, Troy Westrum of Stratford, Iowa, Robin Westrum of Altoona, Iowa, Shawn Bustamante and her husband Armando of Denver, Colorado, Angela Abeyta and her husband David of Denver, Colorado, Nicole Cella of Denver, Colorado, Tyler Westrum of Georgetown, Texas, Chad Westrum of Dallas, Texas, Joshua Westrum and his wife Nyrhee of Phoenix, Arizona, Ben Westrum of Granger, Iowa, Dan Westrum of Ft. Dodge, Iowa, Leah, Jacob, Zachary and Micah Westrum all of Granger, Iowa; 11 great-grandchildren; one brother, Mervyn Dick of Webster City, Iowa; several nieces, nephews and many friends.
Services will be held on Thurday morning, January 23rd at 10:00 a.m. at the Calvary United Methodist Church in Stratford, Iowa with Rev. Kent Kastler officiating.
Interment will be in South Marion Cemetery south of Stratford, Iowa.
Friends may call at the Stark-Welin Funeral Home in Stratford, Iowa on Wednesday evening from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. and Thursday morning at the Calvary United Methodist Church in Stratford from 8:30 a.m. until time of service.
The family will be present at the Stark-Welin Funeral Home from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. to greet friends.
Memorials may be given to Evangelical Free Church Home in Boone, Iowa.
