Patsey Hobbs Browne was born in Sampson Co. NC, the daughter of Simon Hobbs on March 25, 1799. She later married John Allen Browne by 1821. One son, Newburne was born in 1824 in Cumberland Co. NC, so they may have married there. This couple moved to Tuscaloosa Co. AL by 1834 and had a number of children. The couple had a number of slaves on their plantation during their life. They lived in what is now the eastern part of Tuscaloosa.
Patsy Browne died on May 1, 1859 and was buried in the Hopewell Baptist Church cemetery beside her husband. This cemetery is located behind the church on University Street in east Tuscaloosa. She is buried in the north part of the small cemetery with numberous other Browne family members.
