A memorial service for Fred G. Beers, 82, of Perry, will be 2 p.m. Friday at First Presbyterian Church, Perry.

The Revs. Marilyn Weathers and Tim Boggess will officiate. Arrangements are by Brown-Dugger Funeral Home, Perry. Family visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

He was born Aug. 19, 1924, in Perry to Frederick William and Ivy Isabelle Bucklin Beers and died Monday, Aug. 6, 2007, in Perry.

He graduated from Perry High School in 1941. He served in the Army during World War II and attended St. Bonaventure University in Olean, N. Y., was a copy editor on the news staff of The Stars and Stripes, the Army newspaper published in Hawaii for military personnel in the Mid-Pacific area.

After the war he was managing editor of The Perry Daily Journal for 25 years before taking a position in corporate communications with The Charles Machine Works Inc. (Ditch Witch). He retired from CMW in 1989. In 1994, he resumed writing for the Perry newspaper. He authored four books.

Surviving are his wife Laura; two daughters, Susan Bieberdorf of Perry and Kathy Lindsey of Kansas City, Kan.; and four grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, one half-sister and one granddaughter.

Memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church or charity of donor's choice through the funeral home, 1010 North 7th Street, Perry, OK 73077.
