Obituary: Marion Clara Askew, 80, of Medford, died Wednesday (March 27, 2002) at Crystal Mountain Foster Home in Medford. A private memorial service will be held later. Inurnment will be in Memory Gardens Memorial Park, Medford.

She was born Dec. 27, 1921, in Medford, to Carl E. and Nellie (McFadden) Borg. She graduated from Medford High School in 1939, and from what is now Southern Oregon University in 1942. On March 9, 1946, in Medford, she married James Leon Askew, who died in 1998. They moved to the Rogue Valley in 1975 from San Leandro, Calif.

Mrs. Askew served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. She worked in retail sales for several years, at Macy's in California, and at Miller's Department Store in Medford.

She was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars No. 1833, and the First Southern Baptist Church in Medford.

Survivors include a daughter, Barbara M. Cabral, White City; three sons, Larry T., Medford, James L. Jr., Newark, Calif., and John V., Redding, Calif.; a brother, Carl Borg, Gresham; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Katherine E. Askew.
