Guy E. Banks, 100, of Washington Township, died Thursday, Feb. 26, 2009, at his son's home where he lived the past eight years. Mr. Banks was born Monday, July 20, 1908, in Bentleyville, son of the late John and Susan (Cowfer) Banks.
He was a coal miner for 50 years and a resident of Plum Borough for most of his life. He was a chemist at the mine and he also ran a printing business out of his home in Plum for many years. He retired and went to Penfield in 1978.
He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, of Dubois, and a former member of Presbyterian Church, of Plum Creek.
He was a member since 1954 of the Tyrian Lodge, of Lower Burrell, the Scottish Rite, of Pittsburgh, and the Syria Shrine, of Harmar Township.
He was a lifelong hunter and fisherman and he loved the outdoors, snowmobiling and riding his quad in the mountains around Penfield.
He is survived by his son, Gregory (Madeline) Banks, of Washington Township; a daughter-in-law, Carol Banks, of Wisconsin; nine grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Polly (Ewing) Banks; a son, Richard Banks; two brothers; and three sisters. He was a beloved "grandpap" to many even outside of our family and will be sorely missed by all.
Family and friends are invited from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the CHURCHFIELD-PETERS FUNERAL HOME, New Kensington, PA. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the Chapel at Plum Creek Cemetery, Plum Borough, with the Rev. Jack Lolla, officiating. Everyone is asked to meet at the cemetery chapel.
Burial will follow at the Plum Creek Cemetery, Plum Borough.
