Born May 11, 1909, in Catawba County, he was a son of the late Dallas Alexander Yount and Laura Drum Yount.
He was a retired farmer, where he served on the Farmers Home Administration (FHA) and the Agriculture Stabilization and Conservation Services (ASCS), and also was a past member of the Conover City Planning Board. He was a longtime member of St. John's Lutheran Church, where he also served as an Elder, on the church council and on the building committee at the St. John's Lutheran Church that burned in 1950 and the rebuilding of the church that burned in 2001, and also was the oldest living member at the time of his death.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Willie Marie Baker Yount; sisters, Anna Cline, Mary White, Claudia Seitz, Eva Little, Ruth Moose, Lela Smith, Violet White and Sue Hewitt; and brothers, Oren Yount and Carl Yount.
Survivors include daughters, Ruth Rockett and husband, Dwight, and Carolyn Keisler and husband, Charles, of Conover; sons, Hugh Dallas Yount and wife, Camilla, and Paul Gaither Yount and wife, Willie Pearl, of Conover; grandchildren, Nelson Yount, Conrad Yount, Myron Yount, Tim Keisler, Tina Propst, Paula Teague, David Yount, Dana Drum, Kathy Harris and Allison Albert; and great-grandchildren, Adam Keisler, Corey Keisler, Emily Yount, Ryan Yount, Andrew Yount, Victoria Yount, Collin Yount, Makayla Yount, Laura Yount, Lauren Yoder, Jennifer Yoder, Kacy Yount, Jana Yount, Abby Yount, Reece Yount, Sarah Drum, Daniel Drum, Rebekah Drum, Joshua Harris, Benjamin Harris, Jacob Albert and Abigail Albert; and sisters-in-law, Lorene B. Hunsucker of Conover and Irene B. Campbell of Newton.
A Service of Remembrance will be held at 4 p.m. Tuesday, March 24, 2009, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Conover, with the Revs. Scott Johnson and Anton Lagoutine officiating.
Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
