The county lost a good and kindly man on May 19, 1964 in the passing of Bernard "Barney" Kramer of Baileyville. Mr. Kramer had been ill for about 5 1/2 months and his death came from virus pneumonia.
Mr. Kramer was born in Germany, at Damme, Oldenburg, on April 18, 1881, son of Henry & Mary Agnes Beiderlacke Kramer. He was about 21, in 1902, when he came to the United States and Nemaha county.
He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Baileyville, and of the Holy Name Society; and a member of the Knights of Columbus.
On January 22, 1913, he and Clara Nolte were married at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, Seneca. Their home has been on the farm at Baileyville some 42 years. Mr. Kramer retired from active farming two years ago.
Mr. Kramer is survived by his wife, and by his children, Leoba Kramer, Baileyville; Clarence Kramer, Trona, CA; Walter Kramer, Glendale, CA; Mary Agnes Holtgraver, Gardner, KS; Alma Haug, Harrisonville, MO; Alvin Kramer, Seneca; Bernard Kramer, Sabetha; Betty Baldwin, Wichita, KS; twenty-three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; one brother, Joseph Kramer, Vermillion, KS, and one sister, Mrs. Alvin Schumaker, Hays, KS. He was preceded in death by an infant son, Francis Kramer.
A Requiem High Mass was held May 22, 1964 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Baileyville. Burial was in the church cemetery.
