Conover, N.C. - Lori Alice Whitener, 46, of Conover, passed away March 19, 2009, at her residence.

Born March 4, 1963, in Catawba County, she was the daughter of Nathan J. and Myrtle Hefner Whitener.

Lori was a member of Unity Lutheran Church from the time the church was formed. She was a graduate of St. Stephens High School. Lori loved UNC basketball, going on vacation and out to eat. She always had a smile on her face.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Garvin and Brintie Hefner and Andrew M. and Marie Whitener. She is survived by her parents, Nathan and Myrtle Whitener of the home; a sister, Debbie McGinnis and husband, Lamar, of Arden; a brother, Greg Whitener and wife, Web, of Hickory; nieces, Shauna Whitener and Meghan McGinnis; and nephews, Chris McGinnis of Raleigh and Nicholas McGinnis of Fletcher.

The Celebration of Life service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 21, 2009, at Unity Lutheran Church, with Pastor John Jones III officiating.

Burial will follow in Catawba Memorial Park.
