Connie D. Baert, 95, passed away in Bend, Oregon, November 8, 2001. Connie D. Lilly was born October 7, 1906 in Barton County Missouri to George and Mattie Cline Lilly. She was raised in Missouri and later moved to Pittsburg Kansas to attend business college. It was while attending school that she met Albert G. Baert. They were married in Carthage, Missouri February 19, 1927. Mrs. Baert was a 59 year resident of Oregon, coming to Klamath Falls with her family in January of 1942 from Cannon City, Colorado. She had been a resident of Lake County since 1944 where she and Al owned and operated the Silver Lake Lumber Company and were later instrimental in the development of the Christmas Valley community. Mrs. Baert owned and operated the Christmas Valley Mercantile and was also the first postmaster of the Christmas Valley Post office.

Mrs. Baert is survived by two daughters, Billye Sugden of Eugene and Jackie Corum of Bend. She was preceeded in death by her son Walter "Bud" Baert, on October 8, 1999, and her husband Al, November 21, 1991. She is also survived by nine grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchilden, and a sister, Ruby Holm of Eugene. The graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, November 12 at Dechutes Memorial Park.
