CAPT. JOHN E. NORTON
JONESPORT - Capt. John E. Norton, passed away June 8, 2008, at a Bangor hospital, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born Oct. 25, 1947, in Machias, the son of the late Capt. Barna B. Norton and Beatrice W. (Sinford) Norton, RN. John enlisted in the U.S. Coast Guard in 1969. He was honorably discharged as a boatswain's mate first class in March of 1981. He carried on the long standing family tradition started by his father of transporting passengers to Machias Seal Island for puffin watching and to view various other species of birds. John especially enjoyed fly-fishing, ice fishing and duck hunting. He will also be remembered for his excellent outdoor photography work including birds, lighthouses, sunsets and boats. John is survived by his companion, his beloved daughter, many aunts, uncles, cousins and special friends too numerous to mention; much loved dogs, Mack, Chip, Riley and Odie; and kitties too. In addition to his parents, John was predeceased by his infant sister, Julie E. Norton. Graveside services will be held at a later date to be announced. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Beatrice Whitney Norton Nursing Scholarship Fund, care of Barbie Cirone, 38 Masons Bay Road, Jonesport, ME 04649.
