Mr. Arthur was born in Danville, VA on June 5, 1936, a son of the late Henry Arthur and Mammie Burton Arthur.
He had lived most of his life in Danville, VA and had retired in 1985 from Harris Teeter where he had worked as the Market Manager. He was a member of Temple Baptist Church and had served as a Trustee and he was an avid fisherman.
On June 10, 1980, he married Ila Oldham Arthur. He was previously married to Catherine Tucker Arthur, of South Carolina.
In addition to his wife, of the residence, he is survived by three beautiful and greatly loved daughters by his former wife, Wendy A. McFadden, and husband Mark, of Callands, VA, Cathy A. Kenny, and her husband Roger, of South Carolina, and Crystal Arthur, of New York; a step-daughter, Carolyn Pritchett, whom he always considered as his, and husband Butch, of Dry Fork, VA, five grandchildren, Nikki Goad, Nicholas, Jessica, Katie, and Lane Pritchett; three Great-Grandchildren, Xavier and Kristoff Goad, and Austin Pritchett.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by two brothers, Reverend J. B. Arthur and Lawrence "Boogie" Arthur.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday, February 22, 2009 at 2:00 P.M. from Temple Baptist Church with Brother Roy Newton, the Reverend Joe Arthur and the Reverend Clark Crowder officiating. Interment will follow in Floral Hills Memory Gardens.
