RIGBY - Candy Kathryn "Kate" Andrus Howard, 51, of Rigby and formerly of
Jerome, passed away on March 13, 2009 in Idaho Falls with her husband at her
side after fighting a long battle with diabetes and heart disease.
Kate was born in Jerome, Idaho on July 3, 1957 to Chuck and Norene Andrus.
She attended school in Jerome and graduated from Jerome High School in 1975. She
furthered her education at Ricks College and Idaho State University. She worked
in early childhood development in the Magic Valley before moving to Blue
Springs, Mo. in 1994 to work in the same field.
It was in Kansas City that she met the love of her life. She married George
Douglas Howard in Overland Park, Kan. on February 14, 1997. They moved to
Gardner, Kan. for a couple of years and then they made the decision to move back
to the West.
They moved to Redmond, Ore. in 2001 and eventually settled back in Idaho in
2003. Prior to her illness she was the Eastern Idaho Regional Head Start
Director.
Kate was loved by all who knew her. She was adventurous and loved to
travel. She spoke at many conventions all over the United States during her
career and had many friends throughout the country. She will be deeply missed by
all who knew her. She was a friend to everyone and always willing to give of
herself to others.
Kate is survived by her husband, George Howard, of Rigby; her brothers
Randy (Beth) Andrus of Wendell, Scott Andrus of Jerome; five nieces, Katy
(Jared) Ratliff, Amy Andrus, Mallory Andrus all of Pocatello, Laurie Andrus and
Carli Andrus of Wendell; and her grandmother, Kathryn VanOrman, of Boise; along
with many other uncles, aunts and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Chuck and Norene Andrus; her
paternal grandparents, Charles and Mildred Andrus; and her maternal grandfather,
John VanOrman.
A memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m., Wednesday, March 18, in
the Jerome LDS 1st Ward Chapel, 825 E. Ave. B, Jerome, Idaho. Family and friends
are invited to visit with the family one hour before the service at the church.
Interment will follow in the Jerome Cemetery.
Arrangements are under the care of Farnsworth Mortuary of Jerome.
