" SAD DEATH MRS. GEORGE A. JAMES
LOVED WIFE AND MOTHER RELIEVED OF SUFFERING
Funeral Sunday Afternoon of Wife of Circuit Clerk James

A great bereavement came to not only the family and near friends but to this whole community in the death on Thursday evening, April 7, at about 9 o clock of that fine woman, devoted wife and mother and kind friend, Mrs. George A . James.

About a year ago she was the subject of a terrible operation at the hospital at Rochester, Minn., and improved for some time, but for the last six weeks a recurrence of the trouble had caused great alarm. The only consolation at this time is the thought that the end inevitable soon, came without a prolonged period of suffering.

Grace Benedict Jones was a daughter of Preston K. Jones and Mary Harrington-Jones, both of families of prominent pioneers of this county, and was born in Sycamore, July 2 , 1878 . Here the daughter grew to womanhood. At Belvidere , Ill ., on September 9, 1905, she was united in marriage to George A . James, the present circuit clerk and recorder of DeKalb county.

Mrs. James leaves surviving, besides her husband, two children: John H. James, 14 years of age, and Mary Frances James, eight years of age. She also leaves surviving her mother Mrs. Mary H. Jones and sister Mrs. Harry A. Gable, both of Belvidere . She was a granddaughter of Dr. James Harrington, of old New England stock, conspicuous [conspicuous] in the early history of this county, and leaves a large number of family connections here.

The funeral services will be held at the late residence on Alma street on Sunday afternoon at 2 o’clock, Rev. James O’May, pastor of the Methodist church, officiating, and the interment will be in the family lot in Elmwood cemetery."

The children of George James and Grace Jones were:
1. John H. James (1906-1953)
2. Mary Frances James (1912-1995)
