Edwin "Ted" Eads Andrews Jr. died July 23, 2004. Ted was born in Akron, Ohio on September 3, 1907. As a boy, he moved to Clarion, Pa. and later as a teenager to Charlottesville, where he lived on Carter's Mountain. He graduated from the University of Virginia in 1930 with a degree in engineering. While at Virginia, he was president of Tau Beta Pi (engineering), and Theta Beta Pi (social) fraternities. He was a member of the Raven Society, and played mid fielder on the lacrosse team, which to his everlasting regret never beat Johns Hopkins. Graduating from college into the great depression, Ted went to work for the Standard Oil Company of New Jersey pumping gas. He remained their employee with the exception of World War II until 1966, when he retired as its director of marketing. During World War II, Ted served in the Navy as a member of the Army Navy Petroleum Board, serving in Europe and southwest Asia, rising to the rank of commander. Ted married the late Elizabeth "Bess" Taylor Andrews in 1945, and the late Martha "Kitty" Hoggan Andrews in 1996. He is survived by his son, Edwin Eads Andrews III of Raleigh, N.C.; and his stepsons, Willard M. Burleson Jr. of Williamsburg, and Richard A. Burleson of Richmond; seven grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.
