He was a Captain in the Army Engineers, serving in the European theater during World War II. A 1937 graduate of the Upper Leacock High School, he worked for many years in the Geo. W. Bard and Sons Insurance Agency (now the BCF group), Lancaster, eventually becoming a partner in later years. A longtime civic and community leader, Mr. Bard's involvements and interests included: life member and longtime Secretary of the Leacock Fire Department; served on the board of Leola National Bank and on the advisory board for Fulton Bank, Leola; former Secretary of the Leola Water Authority; member of Lancaster County Insurance Agents Association; Board Member of Northern Mutual Insurance Company of Ephrata; longtime Boy Scout leader; 48+ years in the Bareville-Leola-Leacock Lions Club receiving an Achievement Award; catcher in the PV League Tri-Town softball team; member of the Elks, Lancaster; lifetime member of Zion Lutheran Church, Leacock.
Surviving, in addition to his wife Edna, are: a niece, Donna Jean Widmer, California; a brother-in-law, Roy married to Marjorie Bundens, Lancaster; several cousins. He was preceded in death by a sister, Nellie B. Bard.
Funeral services will be private and at the convenience of the family. Interment: Trumbauer Memorial Cemetery, Leacock, Pennsylvania. Kindly omit flowers.
