Gary Lee Adcock, age 62, joined our Heavenly Father, Friday, March 13, 2009.

Gary was born in Merkel, Texas, January 2, 1947 to Waymon and Johnnie Adcock. He graduated from Merkel High School in 1965. After graduation, Gary obtained an Associate Degree from Cisco Jr. College. He attended Dallas Institute of Mortuary Science (Gupton Jones) and graduated with a Diploma of Mortuary Science. He received his Funeral Director and Mortician License which was followed by 39 years in the funeral service profession.

During his lifetime, Gary was very active in many civic organizations in every community where he resided. In his lifetime he obtained numerous awards of which one was Member of the Year of the Dallas Chamber of Commerce at the early age of 27. Gary was also named Salesman of the Year on numerous occasions during his career in the funeral profession.

His greatest love was his beautiful wife, two daughters, son-in-law, and his two grandsons.

During his career at Cisco Jr. College, he met Joann Burns of Abilene. They were married on August 23, 1969.

Gary was presently employed by Security National Life Insurance Company as Regional Manager.

Survivors include his wife, Joann Adcock of Abilene; daughters, Meredith Adcock of Abilene and Melissa Nelson of Houston; son-in-law, Shannon Nelson of Houston; and grandsons, Colton and Cooper Nelson of Houston. Gary is also survived by his parents, Waymon and Johnnie Adcock of Merkel; brother, Wayne Adcock and sister-in-law, Ferrell Adcock, of Merkel; sister, Andria Gardner and brother-in-law, Gary Gardner, of Abilene, as well as in-laws, Melvin and Marie Layne of Abilene.

The viewing and family visitation will be Tuesday, March 17th, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road in Abilene. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, March 18th, at 1:00 p.m. at Aldersgate United Methodist Church in Abilene, with Rev. Derrell Patterson officiating. Burial will follow immediately after in Rose Hill Cemetery in Merkel, Texas.
