She and her husband, John A. Cox, owned and operated the Mt. Zion Grocery for 40 years before retiring in 1975. She was preceded in death by her husband, John, in 1980 and one son, Nolan, in 1946, as well as two brothers, John Ray and Willie Ray, and three sisters, Fern Hughes, Nellie Jones and Doshia Smith. She is survived by two sons, Harold Cox, Deepwater, and Ronnie Cox, Clinton; one daughter Marilyn Green, Independence; one brother Dillon Ray, Kansas City, and one sister Goldena Bunch, Lowry City, as well as nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held Tuesday, August 27, 1991, at the Vansant-Mills Chapel. Burial was held at the Mt. Zion Cemetery, Mt. Zion.
