Seaman (E3)Krouskoupf served aboard the minesweeper, USS Magpie(AMS-25) in Wonson Harbor, Korean waters. On October 1, 1950, it struck a floating mine and sunk. Twenty one men were lost. He was listed as Missing in Action while engaged with the enemy on October 1, 1950, He was presumed dead on October 2, 1951. Seaman (E3) Krouskoupf was awarded the Purple Heart, the Combat Action Ribbon, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal and the Korean War Service Medal.
