He confessed Christ and joined the First Baptist Church, Jarratt, VA, at an early age. He was a veteran of the United States Army and attended Virginia State College (University). He retired from Fort Lee Army Base, Petersburg, VA. John was the proprietor of Branch's Garage, Grocery, Pool Hall and Economical Club. He loved baseball and was the owner of a baseball park, in which several local teams played on. Also, he was an avid gardener who looked forward to planting his summer crops.
A funeral service was held at 12:00 noon, Wednesday, March 18, 2009, at the First Baptist Church, Jarratt, VA. Interment in the Dinwiddie Memorial Park, Dinwiddie County, VA.
