He retired from Fort Lee Army Base, Petersburg, VA. John was the proprietor of Branch's Garage, Grocery, Pool Hall and Economical Club. He loved baseball and was the owner of a baseball park, in which several local teams played on. Also, he was an avid gardener who looked forward to planting his summer crops.
A funeral service was held at 12:00 noon, Wednesday, March 18, 2009, at the First Baptist Church, Jarratt, VA. Interment in the Dinwiddie Memorial Park, Dinwiddie County, VA.
