Apr 24, 1925 - Pioneer Citizen Passes Away
Mr. Uen Benbrook, pioneer citizen of Izard County, died at the home of is son Robert Benbrook, at Rogers, early last Saturday morning, April 18th, at the age of 76 years, 11 months and 26 days.
For several months past Uncle Uen has been afflicted with heart trouble, though apparently was in reasonable good health for the few days preceding his death. He expressed himself as feeling unusually well the day before his demise, walked a considerable distance, ate a hearty supper and retired as usual. At about five o'clock the next morning he was found in bed lifeless, the end apparently having come about a half hour previously. Uncle Uen had been spending some time at Oxford with his daughter, Mrs Blankenship, but went to Rogers a few weeks ago.
Deceased was born in this county April 22, 1848 and has been a resident of this section all his life. He had a wide acquaintance over this and adjoining counties and was one of the section's most highly respected citizens -- a very devout Christian and a strict champion of the principles of moral uplift and community betterment. He has lived a member of the M. E. Church, South, since early manhood; also being a faithful member of the Masonic order for many years.
Deceased is survived by three sons, Robt C. Benbrook of Rogers; A. M. Benbrook of Fargo, Okla.; Elbert Benbrook of Searcy; two daughters, Mrs J. L. Blankenship of Oxford and Mrs W. A. Kerr of Bentonville; two sisters, Mrs I. L. Bailey of Garfield; Mrs Franks of Viola; and one brother, Henry Benbrook f near Calico Rock.
The remains arrived here from Rogers Monday afternoon, accompanied by relatives. Funeral services were conducted at the Spring Creek church by Rev. G. Sears, assisted by Rev. B. A. McKnight, after which the Masons took charge and conducted services at the grave, burial taking place in the Spring Creek cemetery. A large gathering of sorrowing friends and relatives offered respects by attending the final rites and services.
----
He is buried in the Benbrook Family plot.
