Ruth Oleta Vandiver Claxton, born November 15, 1914 in Winfrey, Arkansas, went to her joyous reward after departing this life Saturday, March 14, 2009 at her residence. She married A. W. Claxton on December 23, 1939 in Oklahoma City. During those early years, she was known as an exemplary mother who sewed and cooked untold hours for her family, but still took time to be a youth leader at Southside Faith Tabernacle, then proceeded to teach The Glory Class, a large Sunday School class for women who met throughout the 1950's and 60's.

Ruth was preceded in death by her mother and father, James Alfred Vandiver and Selah Pence four brothers, Paul, Junior, Jack and J.D., and sister, Bobbie.

She is survived by son, Rick Claxton of OKC daughters, Vickie Riley of OKC and Linda Smith of Dayton, OH granddaughters, Kerri Smith of Dayton, OH, Heather Linker of Lebanon, OH grandson, Matthew Whinery of Moore great- grandchildren, Kelli Smith, Jessica Linker, Alison Smith, Luke Linker, Michael Smith and Brayden Whinery brother, George Vandiver of Omaha, NE, and sister, Birdie DeVore of Winslow, AR.

A funeral homegoing celebration will be held Thursday, March 19, 2009 in the Resthaven Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in Resthaven Memory Gardens.
