He was born July 29, 1905 in Millersburg
Township, Mercer County, Il. He died on
March 11, 1971 at the Union Printers
Home in Colorado Springs, El Paso, Colorado.

He was graduated in 1923 from Aledo High
School, Aledo, Mercer County, IL.

He worked as a linotype operator as a young
man for the Times Record in Aledo, then went
to the Star Courier in Kewanee, IL and
worked for a number of years for what is now
the Daily Times in Ottawa, IL.

The drawing of Ralph was done at the
1937 Mercer County Fair. A man had a
booth and was drawing sketches of folks
for not much money. This was the end of
the depression and fairs were wonderful
outings for people. Their oldest daughter,
Cheryl Ann was probably about seven
months old, and both Ralph & Darlene
met knew many people at the fair
to whom they were thrilled to introduce
their first child. Probably, she was all
smiles and flirtations, unless she was
hungry or sleepy.

Vital stats provided by Cheryl G. Banks, daugther of Ralph Gustafson.
