Funeral Services were held 1:30 P.M., Tuesday, March 7, 1989 at the Phillips United Methodist Church. Interment was held in the Phillips Cemetery.

OBITUARY: Mary Heuermann

Mary Louise Heuermann, the daughter of Frederick and Elva (Master) Heuermann, was born at Phillips, Nebraska, on February 3, 1893, and passed away at Aurora, Nebraska on March 3, 1989, at the age of 96 years and 1 month.

She received her early education in District School No. 86, and then attended Aurora High School, graduating in 1912. She attended Nebraska Wesleyan University for 2 years, and receiver her kindergarten and primary education diploma in 1914. She then taught in District No. 88 in Hamilton County for 1 year, Giltner for 1 year and Aurora for 4 years.

She attended the University of Nebraska in Lincoln, where she received her Bachelor of Science in Education in 1924, and then taught in Ashland, Broken Bow, Tecumseh and Lincoln, spending one year in each. In 1928 she was a part time instructor at the University of Nebraska while working on her Masters Degree, which she received in 1929.

She was associate Professor in Education at Chadron State College from 1930 to 1942. She then taught in Phillips for 2 years and then from 1946 to 1958, she taught in Walnut Junior High in Grand Island, retiring in 1958.

Mary was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church in Grand Island, and was a member of the Delta Kappa Gamma Sorority, and a honorary teaching sorority.

She cared for her mother until 1961, and after her death, continued to reside in Grand Island until September 10, 1976, when she entered the Hamilton Manor Care Facility where she has since resided.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, William and Bernard and one infant brother.

Those who remain to cherish her memory are a sister-in-law Catherine (Mabon) Heuermann, of North Platte, and nieces and nephews, including Keith and Gene Heuermann of Phillips.
