She was born December 23, 1920, in Minneapolis, KS, the daughter of Ellis and Lena (Peters) Morris. She has lived in Manhattan since the 1930's, when her family moved here from Minneapolis. She graduated from Manhattan High School and attended college for one year. Her later years were spent in Stoneybrook Assisted Living.
Carol was a secretary at Kansas State University in the Agronomy Department, retiring in 1984.
She was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary, American Legion Auxiliary, Eagles Auxiliary and the Rebekah Lodge. She volunteered for numerous organizations including the Chamber of Commerce and helping with the Keynotes newsletter.
Carol was an avid K-State sports fan. She enjoyed when the players would come and visit. She loved and cared about all animals. She enjoyed watching and feeding the wild animals including deer, turkeys, squirrels and birds outside her window.
On October 26, 1940, in Westmoreland, Kansas, she was married to Walter C. Whitney. Mr. Whitney preceded her in death on November 30, 1989. She was also preceded in death by one brother, Keith Morris; and her son-in-law, Phil Branfort.
Survivors include three children: Larry Whitney and his wife Maria of San Antonio, TX, and their children, Christy, Larry, Sherrie and Terrie; Bonnie Branfort of Clifton, Kansas, and her daughter Lori; and Marlin Whitney and his wife Shirley of Manhattan, and their children, Katherine, Wesley and Abby; and numerous great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be held at 1:30 P.M. Tuesday at the Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Chapel with Reverend Larry Fry officiating. Private family graveside services will be in Sunset Cemetery.
